It has been shortlisted for a prize and is a tribute to my mum Shirley Golding who was 14 at the time.. Called 'Multiple injuries, Enemy action' it incorporates the official hospital admissions papers, a copy of a birthday telegram sent to her on her 13th birthday, a certificate acknowledging a tree planted in Israel also on her 13th birthday in her name. I wish to add another casualty. My mum was aged 14, Shirley Golding and was with her Grandparents, Aunts, Uncle and cousin when the bomb dropped. She was buried underneath the rubble for 48 hours until found. She had some scarring but it was the emotional scarring which remained until her death at 70. She had breakdowns, nightmares and ongoing anxiety and depression. Those poor people. With the blackout lifted by then and only six weeks to go until the end of WW2, they might have assumed that they had seen the war out. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
